Navigate the Business Landscape with Confidence

Navigating the complexities of the business world can be a daunting task, but at Decision Tree, we believe that with the right guidance and insights, you can make informed decisions that lead to success. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the strategies and mindsets that can help you and your organization thrive.

Basic Idea

Navigation in the absract is a muddy and fuzzy concept. It can be far easier to think of navigation of the high seas as if you were a pilot of a ship, trying to convince the captain that even though your navigational charts have sea monsters in the margins, those are just doodles by the cartographers and that instead of finding a watery grave, the crew might discover a whole new world. This is the challenge of navigation in a concrete sense. With charts, a compass, a sextant, and star constellations, good pilots can effectively find treasures in far off lands. But in the abstract, to desribe the ‘direction’ of a business is less clear and there aren’t one-to-one parallels to the charts, compass, sextand, and constellations – or is there?

Alternative Idea

At Decision Tree, successful strategy is that which helps the business navigate choices, that as a result impacts the top and bottom line. That includes navigating choices about innovation, segmentation, and competition. To navigate the ever-evolving business landscape is to begin with depiction of that landscape, the “charts” that reference key elements of markets and competition. These are most often depicted in tables, but those are like staring at tital charts. For the ‘visual learners’ a bubble chart, nested or Sankey diagram is most helpful in establishing a visual language to the boundaries of segments and sales territories while showing where value propositions and product portfolios crowd and overlap to compete with one another.
